Development of ATMP (Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Product) bone products

Keywords: bioprinting, bone products, stem cell harvesting

Many injuries require bone grafting to replace missing bone by carving and grafting otherwise healthy bone tissue within the body. In effect, a secondary injury is created, which is no less painful than the original accidental injury or dental procedure. The in vitro and personalised design of bones offers the possibility of dental, accident surgery and orthopaedic applications. In other words, there is a market demand for the correction of sports injuries (e.g. skiing accidents), developmental anomalies and dental surgery, which could potentially be the largest market in the future.

A reliable method for isolating and bone-directed differentiation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells has been developed under the 2019 POP call. We have also developed a PTE tissue culture medium suitable for initiating bone-directed differentiation and even for use as a product.
